Natalie-Marie Hart Interviews Parker Schmidt

Parker is a 15 year old from Vancouver Island.  Parker started singing as soon as he could talk. He loved to sing, everywhere! Parker was always ready to sing and perform for anyone. He is the youngest of 5 kids and all of his family is involved in music, drama and dance.

When Parker was 8 he got his first professional acting job as Tommy Mara in Miracle on 34th Street. This was live theatre and ran for 12 weeks. At 11 he was cast as the Ghost of Christmas Past in an adapted live play A Christmas Carol.

Parker loved being on stage and being part of such a great cast!

At age 10 Parker, after watching his brother, he decided that he wanted to learn how to play the guitar, so he borrowed his brothers and taught himself all he could. With a little help from a chord book and from watching his brothers, Parker was playing the guitar day and night! With in a week or two, he started writing his own songs. He gives credit to his brothers for inspiring him to play the guitar and to write his own music.

In the fall of 2010, Parker auditioned for Vancouver Islands Got Talent. This was his first time at singing in front of a large audience, and the first real chance that he had to perform some of his own original songs. Parker did very well, making it to the finals of the competition.

Springtime of 2011 was a time that Parker will look back on as a time that helped to shape where he would go with his music. Parker auditioned for YTV’s The Next Star.

Parker was 1 of 6 chosen out of over 4000 other kids auditions to part of Season 5’s National TV show. Being on The Next Star was a wonderful blessing for Parker. He was able to learn and participate in the making of a commercial, being part of photo shoots, learning new songs and singing them in front of live studio audiences, having the opportunity to have a vocal coach to teach him how to polish his voice, and most of all to co-write with his producer their song It Might Be You, and to shoot his very first music video. He spent the summer is Toronto, working hard, learning about the music and TV industry and loved every minute of it! It all wrapped up with a live finale performing in front of a 3000 member live audience and a TV audience of over 1 million viewers!

Parker is so grateful to have been one of the finalist on The Next Star. To work with great people, to have made wonderful friends, and to have started to journey to follow his dream.

Since the Next Star, Parker has been busy performing at schools, singing for them and sharing thoughts about his Next Star experience. He has been asked to sing O Canada and many local Sporting Events. He has put on a several local concerts. He has also been very busy writing songs, and recently had the opportunity to work with producer Ryan Hadlock in Seattle, and has recorded 4 of his own original songs. He is anticipating the release of the first single later this fall.

Parker loves to sing and write his own music and appreciates those who work hard to do the same. He one day hope that others will be able to enjoy his music on the radio and that he would be able to do more recording and do concerts across the country.
